Literacy Specialist

Literacy Specialists focus on developing programs in languages where there is a translation project in progress and emphasizes using the mother tongue as the gateway to basic literacy. Our vision for language programs is to see literacy become a sustainable community value with the ownership of literacy goals and activities in the hands of the people.

For previously unwritten languages, this means developing alphabets, overseeing the production of primers and reading materials, teaching reading and writing while simultaneously training teachers to teach the same.
