Why Bible Translation?

We believe the single greatest way we can help a hurting world is to give them God’s Word.

Think for a moment of some of the greatest tragedies of our day. War. Genocide. Rape. Human-trafficking. Abuse. World Hunger. Poverty. Each of these disturbing issues is a reflection of a fractured world where sin runs rampant. Each one of these injustices is a symptom of sin. While we are thankful for the wonderful organizations that make it their life work to eradicate these individual travesties and fight social injustices, someone has to address the malady and root causes of our suffering–we are a people in need of a Savior. 

We believe the single greatest way we can help a hurting world is to give them God’s Word. This can only be accomplished through the communication of God’s desired plans for us and by people coming to see who their creator is. Some places on this earth have never encountered one verse of God’s Word. As a result, they lack an accurate picture of the God of Heaven who knows them and loves them intimately. Why wouldn’t we expect the people living in these places to do and experience terrible things? Somebody has to take intentional steps to address the world’s pain. We believe we are those “somebodies…”

God’s Word says people from every nation, tribe and language will worship Jesus.

Jesus said “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” But the grim reality is that 2,000 years later, 2.5 billion people—nearly a third of the earth—have never heard the name of Jesus, and never will, unless we, the people of the Church, go and tell them.

Out of nearly 7,000 languages spoken in the world today, more than 1,900 have no Scripture—not a paragraph, not a sentence, not even a word. The next major milestone to complete the Great Commission is to see churches with Scripture transforming every language group on earth.

The work is not finished until there are networks of churches using Scripture to grow, mature and multiply.

Our goal is to start and finish 250 projects by 2050, focusing on the earth’s remaining 900 language groups with no church and no Scripture. These people are living in extreme spiritual poverty.

We strive to cross every language barrier with both Scripture and church to see life transformation among these least-reached people.

Missionary teams from Pioneer Bible Translators live among Bibleless, least-reached people groups—often in remote and difficult locations—to learn the language, promote literacy and community development, share the Gospel and plant churches. We partner with the local people to translate the Bible into their heart language. We distribute Scripture through print, audio and digital technologies.

This generation can finish the task of Bible translation.

Current momentum in Bible translation gives us confidence that there will be churches using Scripture in every language group on earth by 2050. You have a role to play.
